The acclaimed series The Immortal Hulk, by Englishman Al Ewing and Brazilian Joe Bennett, continues. In this volume, the story picks up where the previous one left off, with the green monster and journalist Jackie McGee thrown into a strange kind of hell.
Here, the duo—and other guest characters—face terrifying enemies and situations in this demonic dimension, which sometimes would seem more fitting for a horror comic. The writing is strong, with surprising twists, though here and there stumble in attempts at social commentary that feel a little forced. But what still stands out is Bennett’s art, capable of enchanting and frightening in equal measure.
In the volume’s final stories, Ewing explores Bruce Banner’s past and his relationships with some of the most important people in his journey, like Betty Ross, his ex-wife, and Dr. Leonard Samson, the hero who managed to control the effects of gamma radiation. This time the cliffhanger also hints at the presence of another familiar figure that should be at the core of next volume. It’s also worth noting Alex Ross’s covers, with a style that seems influenced by Bennett’s interior art.

A elogiada série The Immortal Hulk, do inglês Al Ewing e do brasileiro Joe Bennett continua. Neste volume, a história é retomada de onde terminou no anterior, quando o monstro verde e a jornalista Jackie McGee são lançados a um estranho inferno.
Aqui, a dupla – e outros personagens especialmente convidados – enfrentam inimigos e situações aterrorizantes nessa dimensão demoníaca, que pareceriam mais apropriados a uma HQ de terror. Os roteiros são bons e com lances surpreendentes, embora escorregando aqui e ali em tentativas de crítica social que parecem forçadas. Mas o que se sobressai ainda é a arte de Bennett, capaz de encantar e assustar na mesma medida.
Nas histórias finais do volume, Ewing explora o passado de Bruce Banner e seu relacionamento com algumas das pessoas mais importantes de sua trajetória, como Betty Ross, sua ex-mulher, e o Dr. Leonard Samson, o herói que conseguiu dominar a radiação gama. O cliffhanger da vez aponta ainda para a presença de outra figura conhecida como cerne do próximo volume. Vale atentar também às capas de Alex Ross, com um estilo que parece influenciado pela arte interna de Bennett.
